db/Envision Internet Database Publisher v1.0
==============================================
What is it I've downloaded?
--------------------------
db/Envision is a windows program that allows you to convert almost any
database into an HTML web page by layout out how you want one record to
appear. Pages can be generated in HTML table format, paragraph format
or preformatted text. You can control which fields are output and how
they display. Fields can be text, database fields, hyperlinks, links to
graphics or even complex combinations of fields. You can link multiple
tables together to make even more complex web pages.
Supported Databases
-------------------
xBase: Clipper, Foxpro, dBase III, dBase IV
ODBC: Access 1.0/2.0, Btrieve, CA-Datacom, CA-IDMS, CA-Ingres, DB2/2,
Excel, Informix, Netware SQL, ORACLE, Paradox, SQL Server,
SQLBase, Sybase System 10, and Watcom SQL
We have not been able to test db/Envision with every one of these
drivers, but db/Envision uses only standard ODBC commands so there
_should_ not be any problems. Of course, if you do have problems,
please let us know. We would like to make sure it works with every ODBC
database we come across.
Also, you must have ODBC setup on your computer to use the ODBC support.
If you do not have it setup already, you can copy ODBC*.* from the
db/Envision directory to your windows system directory. Although, if
you do not have ODBC installed, it is unlikely that you have any
databases accessable through ODBC.
Installation
------------
To install the db/Envision software, you simple have to unzip the
dbenvisn.zip file into it's own directory. There is no setup program
(to reduce the size of the file). All the files needed to run will be
put one one directory. No files are copied to the windows or windows
system directory. You must, however, unzip the file with the -d command
to preserve the directory structure. Here is an example that creates a
new DBENVISN directory and unzips the files from the temp directory.
C:\> md dbenvisn
C:\> cd dbenvisn
C:\DBENVISN> pkunzip c:\temp\dbenvisn.zip -d
You may need to copy the CTL3DV2.DLL into the windows\system directory
if it is not there already. You will be given a message about missing
CTL3DV2 is it is not in your windows\system directory.
You may also need to copy TOOLHELP.DLL into the windows\system directory
as well. Depending on your version of windows copy the file from either
the WIN95 or WIN3 directory into your \windows\system directory.
Removing db/Envision from your hard drive
-----------------------------------------
Just remove the directory. You can use deltree from the DOS prompt, or
use file manager and just press the delete key.
